Celebrating Lag B’Omer in Brighton

On Sunday 26 May 2024, Chabad Brighton hosted a wonderful Lag B’Omer celebration at Hove Rugby Club. It was a day filled with joy, community spirit, and meaningful remembrance.

Lag B’Omer is a significant and festive day on the Jewish calendar. It marks the anniversary of the passing of the revered sage and mystic, Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, the author of the Zohar. The day also commemorates the end of a devastating plague that afflicted the disciples of Rabbi Akiva, a great sage of the Talmudic era. The dying ceased on Lag B’Omer, making it a day of celebration and gratitude.

Our event kicked off at 1pm, welcoming families and friends to enjoy a range of activities. There were fun games for all ages, bringing out the competitive spirit and laughter in everyone. Live music added to the festive atmosphere, creating a vibrant backdrop for the day’s activities.

One of the highlights was the traditional bonfire, symbolising the spiritual light brought into the world by Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai’s teachings. The bonfire’s warmth and glow brought everyone together, enhancing the sense of community.

Of course, no celebration is complete without delicious food. Our guests enjoyed a variety of hot, tasty dishes that catered to all tastes, adding a delicious touch to the event.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this Lag B’Omer celebration so special. Your presence and participation truly embodied the spirit of unity and joy that defines this festive day.
